What happened to the design!?

OMG-3D-VID

March 16th, 2005

Today I’ve stumbled across this wonderfully thoughtful and perfectly crafted 3d-short named “Delivery”. One of the best student-3d-films I’ve ever seen – I’ve watched it three times until now: one run for story, one for textures and one for rendering ;) And the most stunning: It was made by a media-student over at FH Mainz, as a diploma-work, ALONE!

Surfing around on a lazy sunday, I found a couple of links I’d like to share with you guys. Well, they’re dangerous at least if you’re a webdesigner like me who keeps thinking “Why didn’t I do this myself?!” ;).

Kickin' Christmas

December 26th, 2004

Merry Xmas! Hope you all got through these days without big family-desasters :) In my case all went smoothly, in fact we battled each other only on my mum’s brand-new super-duper Kicker (in english its “Foosball” – strange translation…). Hm, perhaps I should return home again ;) By the way: This may be your 25th last christmas. The NASA Near Earth Object Program discovered “2004 MN4, which has a 1/62-chance of hitting the earth on in 2029 (on a Friday 13th!). Considering that chances of being hit by lightning are somewhat close to 1/1000000, this is really frightening. But hey, who knows if we all survive four more years of George W. Bush… Finally on this “christmas-post”: A (german) proof why Santa does not exist. Laughed my ass off g. UPDATE: Some other guys try to prove that Santa does exist. The heat-problem is defeated by an ion-shield, the time-problem by traveling in 11 dimensions. One guy theorizes, that Santa is the cause for global warming by melting off the Northpole, and children should be more nasty so Santa has less work (=less global warming) – lol.

Best Blog-Entry ever

December 15th, 2004

One of my definitive nominees is: “I would RTFM if there was as FM to FR” over at designbyfire. 100% ACK! I should write an article about Typo3, but just the other way round: “I would RTFM if there wasn’t 10.000 FMs to FR” g.

Helvetica R.I.P.++ && IFR

October 20th, 2004

I found it! ITC Officina Sans rocks my world! :D Other nice Sansserif-Fonts which complete the list in my post “Helvetica R.I.P.” below: Flora, Folio, Frutiger, Goudy Sans, Univers. In the post I also groaned on the lacking abilities to style fonts online: With a rather simple idea that lets you bang your head thinking “why didn’t I…” even this obstacle seems to be sovled. Shaun Inman presents the “Inman Flash Replacement (IFR)”-technique, which renders any given truetype-font inside a “flash-movie-header” dynamically. One of the first implementations can be seen at Hicksdesign – one of my personal webdesign-heroes g*. The site was recently redesigned, but in major parts “verschlimmbessert”, as we germans would say ;) P.S.: Everybody who understands the header for this entry IS A GEEK *g. OK, enough chaotic posts and nonsense for today.
