Bachelor and beyond
August 7th, 2006
It probably took some days and about 20.000km of travel to realize: Wow, I’m really finished, and a new chapter in my life is about to start. I just graduated from University of Applied Sciences Darmstadt, after four years of studies. And after a lot of administrative chaos, I could now print “Bachelor of Arts (hons) in Media Production” on my oversized (non-existent) business cards.
In the meantime I spent three months hacking away on my pet-project and bachelor-thesis “Syndicure” – a web-based collaborative RSS-reader for info-junkies (more details on the developer weblog).
So, next chapter: I’ve never been away from sweet home Germany for more than a couple of weeks, and it’s about time to change that. Starting in August, I’ll be doing an internship at Silverstripe, in Wellington. New Zealand. They’re a young innovative company in a vibrant metropole, so probably a perfect place to spend five months of serious web-development. Although I still have to look at the spinning globe of Google Earth to grasp how far away New Zealand actually is, I’m really looking forward to this experience.

Was Chillu mit Varnnavikaarangal zu tun hat
September 14th, 2005

Kleiner Auszug: In section 4, Rachana establishes that chillu is not chillu. However, real issue is not with chillu. It is with chillu and chillu, because they are chillu and chillu, also respectively. Dann: Encode this chillu as chillu only. That is, only RA + VIRAMA + ZWJ will form the chillu. Ehm…rofl? :D

Just another Google Link
April 6th, 2005
I didn’t test Google Maps because somehow it didn’t show up on Firefox/Mac, but heard a lot about it. And guess what? They did Google Satellite! You can zoom into the whole USA with such a level of photographic detail, I’m blown away…you can literally drag yourself from Manhattan to Sunset Blvd. in seconds! Go Google!
BTW: Did you know Google-Employees are allowed to work 20% of their time on personal projects, which may be published via Google Labs? (Link: Why work at Google?).
I guess Google just entered my Top-List for “wanna-work-for-them-someday”, which goes like:
- Macromedia
- Stopdesign
- Scholz&Volkmer (hehe)

The sound of a dying harddrive – more frightening to every computer-user than any horror-movie. Today my 11-month-old Powerbook-drive died without prior warning-signs, just like that. Thanks to Super Duper I have a week-old backup of my whole drive, which boots nicely on my machine (OSX rocks!). But nevertheless, I’ll have to get this fixed – which means 1-2 weeks without my machine. In study-times this would be hell, but hey…due to my internship I have no time to use it at all. So, what do we learn here? DO YOUR BACKUPS! And do them continously, even if you have a relatively new drive. It saved me a lot of nerves these days :)

Winter Wonderland
February 21st, 2005

In the bit of free time between university and the start of my internship I’m recovering at home, in good ol’ Hunsrück. And as the photo shows, we’re quite snowed in! I love snow, and it’s a shame nobody wants to help me building a snowman… :D
Studies, Internship, (Life)
February 9th, 2005
As a result of the last few months (with rare blog-entries), I proudfully present three new projects: Kleidermarkt.de, Mediamap and the short animation “Sport ist Mord”. Two of them are produced with Typo3, a fact that somehow bothers me as I feel cornered as a “Typo3-Developer”. Perhaps I should do some concept- and design-work again… The last project is done with Maya, a tool that fascinates me time and again. But in the end 3D-animation is only a hobby, as I don’t consider myself an “3d-expert”. And you better be a friggin’ expert to get a job in 3d-business…. By the way: The next six months I will do an internship at Scholz&Volkmer! And I’m really looking forward to working with such innovate people – S-V was always a little dream of mine, and a year ago I not even think applying at such a great agency. The internship it titled “Web-Development”, but there’s also much Flash-Stuff in it. These days I have to write my (Life) in brackets, not much news here…I hope there will be more to blog about during my daily travels to Wiesbaden (where S-V is located).
VIVA-Dejavú

One more reason to completely dump television: “Fast Forward” is discontinued! Tonight at 23:00 Charlotte Roche will make her last appearance on the legendary music-show. No more interesting newcomers, no more funny interviews – just for the sake of selling more ringtones to stupid kids… If you were lucky enough to have “Eutelsat” or cable some years ago, you probably know VIVA2 – the predecessor of Viva Plus. “Fast Forward” is one of the few remainders of it’s very innovative and interesting programme (Zelluloid, ZwoBot, 2Rock, hmmm). It’s a shame I didn’t tape those…only found some short trailers on the web (more). RIP, german music television.
Firefox kommt (or: Finding a cheap way to get your name in the FAZ)
December 1st, 2004

Look ma, I’m in the FAZ! At least in teeny tiny letters… FAZ means “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung”, one of Germany’s biggest daily papers. The opensource-community uses this popularity by placing a full-page-ad in tomorrows edition about Firefox. Through donations on firefox-kommt.de of 10-40EUR per individual the team brought up about 50.000EUR with 2403 donators – enough for one page of FAZ. Hopefully my donation helped to spread the word – and convince a broad audience that there is a live beyond the dark side ;) In case you think that this is a very stupid reason to donate money to – I will also donate for “SOS Kinderdorf” this year to keep my good concience g OK, thats it for today…whew, what a media-appearance – I’m a celebrity ;)
Only 9:40min fame left
December 1st, 2004
I’m on telly! This afternoon I was sitting unsuspectingly in our university-mensa when a TV-team approached our group. Normally I’m professional at hiding myself from attention, but this time Emerson shouted “Here, take Ingo!” (Todo: Come up with some payback for Emerson g*). So I said my twopence about the mensa-situation (“1500 students vs. 200 chairs”), and was aired this evening on HR, a local tv-channel (see vid). Hm, ok – I’ve got another 9:40 minutes of fame left in average for my lifetime (if Andy Warhol is right), and I’m curious what I fill the rest with. Probably some bankrobbing-car-chase-scenes ;) Btw: I have to stop saying “halt” in my sentences *g
